August 2008 Devilish Fun Isn’t summer time just glorious? It’s a beautiful day here in rural Marshfield with minimal humidity and perfect temperature readings; the kind of day that screams, “get outside! Do something productive! Enjoy the fresh air!”. The flower beds need weeding, the lawn could be mowed, decks swept, etc. The hammock is calling my name and I can picture a lazy day with a good book. The ‘quilty’ part of my brain though, is telling me something completely different. It’s kind of like those little angel/devil situations they portray in the movies. On one side is the angel – “think how nice the yard will look with some TLC”, – but then, the little devil pokes me with his spear – “C’mon! Nobody’s home. Spend a selfish day in your sewing room.” Then, “You can get some Vitamin D, it’s good for you.” Poke- “Start a new project, you’ve only got a bazillion in your brain.” “Think of how good the exercise will feel.” Poke, poke- “Exercise, schmexercise, you know the fabric makes you happy.” “The flowers are in bloom and the birds are singing.” Again with the poke- “You’d rather listen to the hum of the Bernina.” “You’ve been wanting to do something with that little flat area on the side lawn.” Poke- “There aren’t any mosquitos in your sewing room.” “The weather won’t stay this nice for long, you should get outside and enjoy it.” Poke, poke- “You’ll sunburn in a New York minute. Stay in the house.” Oy, this could go on forever! After analyzing all the arguments I’m thinking there’s some truth to the sunburn part. Is it worth the pain to be out all day? I think not. Maybe I can find a happy medium. I’m thinking I could put on some coconut scented skin lotion, fix a tropical beverage of some sort, and pretend I’m doing the yard thing. I could still play in the sewing room all day. Do you think there’s any way to swap out my sewing machine light bulb for a sun lamp? |
